What’s Really Holding Most Agents Back

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about effort—specifically, the kind of effort it takes to succeed in real estate.

In Episode 19 of The Mindful Agent Podcast, I open up about the disconnect between what we know we should be doing… and what we’re actually doing. And let’s be honest—many agents get stuck right there.

We know we should call our database, follow up, post content, or write that thank-you note. But we wait until next week, next month, or never.

Real Estate is Simple—but Not Easy

This business isn’t about secrets or magic scripts. It’s about doing the basics consistently:

  • Build relationships

  • Stay top of mind

  • Be of service

  • Know your market

  • Show you care

And none of that happens without effort—daily, focused effort. The kind that feels uncomfortable. The kind that doesn’t get applause right away. But that’s the kind of effort that pays off long-term.

Effort is Energy

I shared a story about a friend who sent me a cooking thermometer after I mentioned overcooking my Thanksgiving turkey. That gesture? It stuck with me. And it reminded me—people remember effort.

In real estate, your effort is either felt or it’s absent. You can’t fake genuine care. Clients feel when you’re showing up consistently. And they feel when you’re only reaching out because you need a deal.

One Small Action

So I challenge you: What’s one small effort you’ve been avoiding today? A call, a note, a check-in? That’s your move. Because overcoming that resistance is how you become the agent you want to be.
